RACI Matrix
ConceptualFrameworksOperations
Definition
RACI Matrix: RACI is a framework clarifying roles for tasks or decisions: Responsible (does the work), Accountable (owns the outcome), Consulted (provides input), Informed (needs to know). It prevents confusion about who decides, who executes, and who needs involvement—especially important as organizations scale.
Example Usage
“Our product launch RACI clarified that product was Accountable, marketing Responsible for messaging, sales Consulted, and executives Informed.”
Common Misconceptions
Everyone should be involved. Too many Consulted or Informed people slows decisions; be selective.
Only one Responsible per task. Multiple people can share Responsible; one person must be Accountable.
RACI is bureaucratic overhead. For cross-functional work, explicit roles prevent costly confusion.
