Definition

Investor Memo: An investor memo is a written document articulating the investment thesis for a company—covering market opportunity, product, team, traction, risks, and terms. VCs write memos internally to justify investments; founders sometimes write them to articulate their own narrative clearly.

Example Usage

Writing our own investor memo forced clarity on our narrative. We used it to align our pitch deck and talking points.

Common Misconceptions

Only VCs write investment memos. Founders writing their own memo sharpens thinking and pitch clarity.
Memos are just pitch decks in text. Good memos go deeper, addressing nuances and risks decks can't cover.
Hide weaknesses in memos. Acknowledging and addressing risks builds credibility.
