Remote-First
Definition
Remote-First: Remote-first is an operating model where remote work is the default, not an exception. Unlike remote-friendly (office-centric with remote option) or fully distributed (no office), remote-first companies may have offices but design all processes, communication, and culture for remote employees. This requires intentional documentation, async communication, and inclusive meeting practices.
Example Usage
“Going remote-first meant restructuring everything: async-by-default communication, recorded decisions in Notion, and no hallway decisions.”
