I'm in 10 different Slack instances right now and it is the preferred messaging system for startups. No complaints. The product is so mature that you won't run into many issues. Most of my accounts are unpaid. I recommend you start unpaid and determine what information you want to have forever. For many companies, a lot of the details will live in a CRM.
