Solutions Engineer

ConceptualRolesSales

Definition

Solutions Engineer: A Solutions Engineer (SE) provides technical expertise during the sales process, supporting account executives with demos, technical discovery, proof of concepts, and RFP responses. SEs translate customer requirements into technical solutions and ensure the product can meet customer needs before the sale closes.

Example Usage

β€œOur SEs run technical discovery calls, build custom demos, and lead POCs. They increase our enterprise win rate by handling technical objections.”

Common Misconceptions

SE is just demo support. Great SEs understand customer problems deeply and architect solutions.
SEs need to code production software. Technical fluency matters more than engineering skills.
One SE per AE. Ratios vary by sales complexity; some teams have 1:1, others 1:3 or more.
