Definition

User Research: User research systematically studies target users to understand their behaviors, needs, motivations, and pain points. Methods include interviews, surveys, observation, and data analysis. Research insights inform product decisions, reducing the risk of building features users don't want or need.

Example Usage

User research revealed our target customers care more about time-saving than cost-saving. We repositioned our messaging accordingly.

Common Misconceptions

Research delays building. Research done right is faster than building wrong things and fixing them later.
Only dedicated researchers do research. Everyone on the product team can and should talk to users.
Data tells you everything. Quantitative data shows what; qualitative research explains why.
