Bounce Rate

FoundationalMarketingMetrics

Definition

Bounce Rate: Bounce rate measures the percentage of visitors who leave a website after viewing only one page without taking any action. A high bounce rate may indicate that content doesn't match visitor expectations, page load is too slow, or the call-to-action isn't compelling. However, for some content like blog posts, higher bounce rates can be normal.

Example Usage

Our landing page bounce rate dropped from 75% to 45% after we added a video hero and clearer value proposition.

Common Misconceptions

Lower is always better. Blog readers may find what they need and leave; that's not necessarily bad.
Bounce rate measures time on page. A visitor can spend 10 minutes reading then leave, still counting as a bounce.
All bounces are equal. Segment by source and page type to understand what bounces actually mean.
